Auroras are a natural light phenomena that can be seen on the Earth Poles.
The North Pole ones are called Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, and the ones in the South Pole are known as Aurora Australis or Southern Lights. They appear as a result of a particle collision between the solar wind and Earth’s magnetic fields.
Wonderlights is set in Iceland. This little island rewards a traveller with amazing landscapes at any season of the year, but it’s in winter when the real natural spectacle occurs: the Northern Lights. This video is the result of many personal expeditions and workshops in Iceland over the span of three years. During this time, I became an expert in shooting Iceland’s landscape and Aurora Borealis, with more than 12 successful Aurora hunting trips under my belt.
This video has been made with the time-lapse technique, using DSLR cameras to capture consecutive pictures and later connect them into a video sequence. Most of the shots have 10 and 20 seconds of exposition in between them, were shot with wide lenses and with the maximum aperture. ISO 1600 and 3200 are the main ones. I used Sony a99 and Zeiss 16-35 f2.8 for most of the shots, sometimes also Sony RX1. Péter Nánási (www.peternanasi.com) has created an amazing music piece exclusively for this video. Special gratitude to Péter, as well as to my sponsors, Sony and Kietacam.
